With today’s culture geared towards encouraging women to push harder and reach higher, becoming a ‘girl boss’ is no longer an impossible feat. However, it entails hard work to be worthy of such label.
Many modern women strive to be independent, to be successful in their careers and to the boss of their own lives. If you have always dreamt of becoming one, here are five ways to be the girl boss you have always wanted to be.
- Wake-Up Early
Get out of the bed an hour early every day and at least before 10 in the morning on weekends. It’s scientifically proven that people who get up early from eight hours of sleep do better all around. Another perk to waking up early is that you have enough time to put yourself together and most importantly for having your breakfast, a.k.a. the most important meal of the day.
- Be Assertive
Somewhere in between submissive and aggressive lies assertive. Women in the workplace are sometimes faced with stereotypes, which often puts females in the submissive category. One important thing to remember is to be assertive. Being assertive means knowing when to say ‘no’ and knowing when to push a bit harder. Let this rule apply not only to your work, but also to your day to day life.
- Hit the Gym
An important habit that girl bosses do is to regularly hit the gym. If you clock in lot of office hours, you might find it too tiring to hit the gym, but this is something that shouldn’t be compromised. You don’t have to head to the gym every day, but you should try your best to go three to four times a week. Not only does regular exercise give you more energy to take on busy work schedules, it also helps boost self-confidence as well.
- Enrich Your Mind
Keep educating yourself. You may no longer be a student, but that doesn’t mean you should stop learning. You may be glad that you’re no longer shelling out thousands of dollars for school tuition fees, but you can still keep your mind sharp through reading. It’s always ideal to read materials in your field, though you can still indulge in novels and fictions every once in a while. Reading stimulates your mind and helps it age gracefully so you can still be ‘grandma’ boss.
- Dress to Impress
Part of becoming a boss is to look like one. Even if you aren’t a boss (yet!), dressing up is the easiest way to fake it ‘til you make it. Be the girl that people look at and think you always have everything together. Always looking your best is one important key to maintain your confidence and people’s respect.
Like any of your goals, being a girl boss requires perseverance, dedication and assertiveness. Some people may dislike you for your strong personality, but since you’re such a girl boss, you’re not required to care.
